Grammy Winners Leak Online, But Academy Spokesperson Says They’re Fake
Are the Grammys in trouble?
The Grammys are facing another controversy. On Monday (January 28), the internet went wild when a leaked list of the Grammy winners was wildly reposted online. The posts seemingly got the list of winners from The Grammys’ official website. Among the list, Drake’s “God’s Plan,” Travis Scott’s Astroworld, Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All The Stars,” Cardi B, and H.E.R. were the big hip-hop winners. The post even goes as far as showing a video of the Grammy website confirming these wins. It all seemed pretty sketchy, and arguments got pretty heated online.
Apparently, the leaked winners are fake. A spokesperson for the Recording Academy spoke with Complex and released the statement: “There is no legitimacy to this. GRAMMY Awards results are not shared, even with Recording Academy staff members, until the day of the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, when names of the recipients are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes.” The Grammys will take place on Sunday, February 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Alicia Keys is set to host. If the list of leaked winners does happen to line up with the winners announced on that night of the award show, expect the fallout to be significant.
