A child was hit by a bus in the early morning hours on Monday.
Memphis Fire responded to an accident just before 7 a.m. in the 5100 block of Valdaz Road.
According to officials, the child was taken to Le Bonheur in critical condition after allegedly running toward a school bus when she was struck.
The child, believed to be 11-years-old, has been downgraded to non-critical condition.
According to police, the bus driver did not realize that the child had been hit and kept driving, but was later stopped and advised of the crash.
The incident is still under investigation.
FOX13 News reached out to Memphis-Shelby County Schools for comment on this incident. They released the following:

At First Student, there is nothing more important than the safety of the students we transport.
We are deeply saddened by what happened this morning. Our thoughts are with the student, her family and all those affected by this tragic incident.
We are assisting police with their investigation and conducting our own internal review as well.
As is normal procedure, the driver has been removed from service pending the outcome of these investigations.

We are aware of a bus accident involving a Chickasaw Middle School student this morning.
Our transportation team is assisting local law enforcement and First Student in the investigation and review of the incident.
School bus transportation plays a critical role in education, and we encourage parents, students, teachers, and the community to keep school bus SAFETY at the forefront.
Our thoughts are with the Chickasaw MS student and her family as she recovers.
