Ghana music industry not fair to female rappers – Eno Barony

Ghanaian female rapper, Eno Barony has bemoaned the unfairness of the music industry in Ghana to female rappers.

Known in real life as Ruth Eno Adjoa Amankwah Nyame Adom, the rapper told Bismarck Boache (DJ Premier) on Entertainment Capital on Accra 100.5FM on Saturday, 16 March 2019 that: “The industry [Ghana music industry] is not being fair to female rappers.”

According to the artiste, “Singers, in general, have more opportunity than rappers”, but “You guys, (DJs) can sit here and play melodies throughout, not even thinking of playing hip-hop”.

“A female doing rap, someone might be a good rapper but because they don’t get the kind of attention they want, they intend to switch to singing”, she complained.

Eno Barony explained that because she is “a singer, songwriter and a rapper”, her fans have a variety to choose from.

“Some people enjoy my singing and my rap and others enjoy my hardcore side, I can’t please all of them but I try to entertain them all.

“So, I won’t say others are switching to singing, so, I will do same. No. That alone will make me a quitter. I need to set that pace so that the young ones can follow but if I stop, the young ones will be discouraged”, she stated.
