Freddie Gibbs has given comedy another chance as he hit the stage and crash-landed with a 2Pac joke that didn’t go over too well.
The comedy skit arrived on Monday (May 22) as part of a teaser video promoting Gangsta Gibbs’ upcoming collaboration with streetwear brand HUF. The clip shows the Grammy-nominated rapper/actor trying to win over the crowd in a comedy club, but they didn’t appreciate his ‘Pac-related quip.
“I wanted to be like 2Pac when I was coming up,” he explains. “I was gonna call myself 1Pac. I was gonna be No. 1, even though he was 2Pac. I was gonna kinda be the second version of a ‘Pac. We was both gonna be ‘Pacs.”
Gibbs hears the boos from the audience and quits his set before taking a smoke break outside, at which point a white rabbit pops out on him. However, it all ended up being a dream as he awoke from the trance breathing frantically.
Freddie Gibbs and HUF’s collaboration is set to drop on Thursday (May 25). The Las Vegas-inspired merch collection is called “After Dark We Really Come to Life” and includes heavy casino themes with a satin jacket, track pants and a craps casino skate deck.
While the skit was merely for promotional purposes, this is far from Freddie Kane’s first foray into the comedy sector.
In 2021, he toured the U.S. with his Cokane Comedyseries, which drew rave reviews and included guest appearances from the likes of Danny Brown. Gibbs also displayed his comedic chops as an actor in the Peacock seriesBust Down last year.
On the music side, Freddie Gibbs has laid relatively low following the release of his fifth album $oul $old $eparately last summer, although he did provide an assist earlier this month on Kaytranada and Aminé’s joint project KaytrAminé.
Freddie appeared on the smooth “letstalkaboutit” with a speedy verse, while other guests on the 11-track project included Snoop Dogg, Pharrell and Big Sean.
