Food and Drugs Authority tours Tema port expansion project
Management of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has paid a working visit to the Tema port expansion project to familiarise themselves with the progress of work and to check on a facility allotted to the FDA.
Mrs Delese A. A. Darko, the Chief Executive Officer of FDA, led the Strategic Management Members of the FDA to tour the offices named “Authority Complex” allocated to the Authority and other regulatory bodies at the new terminal three of the Tema Port being managed by the Meridian Ports Services (MPS).
Mrs Darko commended MPS for the state-of-the-art facility and also for considering the FDA by giving the Authority an office at the Port to facilitate its inspections.
Mr Emmanuel Ohene Addo, the Operations Manager of MPS, said the ‘Authority Complex’ which is located at terminal three would help facilitate the operations of Authorities mandated for inspection at the Port.
He said a 12 megawatts power station had been commissioned while 350 meters of the breakwater had also been built.
Mr Ohene Addo said the new terminal comes with Optical Character Recognition Technology, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tags and high-powered scanners to monitor and record the movement of trucks and containers in and out of the terminal.
This, he said, would safeguard cargo and prevent unusual occurrences leading to loss of goods at the Port.
