On Sunday, April 16, the director posted two stills from the upcoming film on his Instagram page. “Green & Pink. It always starts with green and pink. #WickedMovie coming to you in 2024,” Chu captioned the images. He posted a slightly different version of the two pictures and teased, “You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz.”

Grammy Award and Tony Award-winning star Erivo commented on Chu’s post, “It’s been wonderful making magic with you.” Both Erivo and Grande also shared their first look in “Wicked” via their respective Instagram account.

Over on Twitter, Chu gushed about Grande and Erivo’s performances in the movie. “I’ve already been changed for good by these two women… #CynthiaErivo & #ArianaGrande as the Witches of Oz. They will lift ur spirits, break ur heart and leave you speechless with their voices. So excited to introduce you into our world… SO much more to come…,” he wrote along with the photos.

“Wicked” is billed as a two-part film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical of the same title. Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz adapted the screenplay for the big screen version, with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh joining the cast in supporting roles.

Principal photography began in December 2022 in England. “Wicked: Part One” is set to arrive on December 25, 2024, while the sequel, “Wicked: Part Two”, is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2025.
