All over the world, a lot of women are being subjected to violence, and abuse in their relationships. Some of these women are people of high social standing, and are well-known.

Today, on the international day of violence against women, GhanaWeb looks at some popular female celebrities who have been abused.

Afia Schwarzenegger

In 2017, Afia Schwarzenegger, known to be a very loud persona in Ghana’s comedy/acting industry did not fail to bring to the public’s attention the physical assaults she had endured from her former husband, Abrokwah three days to their marriage.

“Three days before our traditional wedding, this guy [Abrokwah] beat me up, dragged my mother, my 70-year mother, who is disabled, my mother has a fractured arm that doesn’t work, she can’t do anything with her right arm [and] dragged her on the ground,” she said on a radio interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

She further stated that she used to make excuses for him by thinking that he abused her as a result of his unemployment status at that time, which she assumed let to his frustration.

“Initially I felt I’m in love with someone who’s confused [and] I used to make excuses for his abuse. Sometimes I go as far as blaming him for not having work to do. If you’re not working as a man, and you don’t have money, you become frustrated,” she added.

Itz Tiffany

Tiffany’s experience with abuse in her relationship was brought to the public eye by surprise as a sex tape of the talented musician was released by her ex-husband in 2014.

According to Tiffany, her ex-husband abused her at the time they were together, and did not want her to pursue her music career. She also claimed that her ex-husband released the sex tape to ‘embarrass’ her because she was actively battling him in court for custody of their son.

However, two of her ex-boyfriends, DJ Cash and actor Leo Mensah have denied the allegations

She rejected an offer to provide details of what may have triggered the domestic attacks.

“Well, what I did or did not do does not matter because nothing can justify a man laying his hand on a woman. I was never disrespectful to any of them, I don’t even argue with them because anybody who know me, knows I am a very quiet person,” she said.

She has now joined active campaigns against domestic violence.
