Fake money syndicate busted

Two suspects, Kelvin Bright and Godfred Mensah, who are suspected to be part of a gang that prints fake currencies, have been arrested by the police.

Last Saturday, a team of officers from the Ghana Police Counter Terrorist Unit swooped on a place called Safari located along the Nyanyano Road at Kasoa in the Central Region and rounded them up.

Exhibits found at their hideout were gadgets suspected to be used in the printing of the fake currencies in high Euro, Dollar and Cedi denominations.

According to sources, an informant told an immigration officer, who is his friend, about the activities of the counterfeit money printing syndicate.

“They had hired my taxi and as I drove along with them they were engaged in a conversation about transporting the stashes of money to Swedru,” a source quoted the driver as saying.

“After the unplastered storey building was located later upon further direction from the informant, the officers proceeded to the last floor and knocked on a door but there was no response and it was forced open. There was nobody in it but there were two young persons in an adjoining compartment.”

“They were picked up alongside a machine which looks like one used for their criminal activities. They were handed over to the Kasoa Police Station. The notes were so much they could not count them but they were in Euros and Dollars. There were also 20 Cedi denominations.”

When DAILY GUIDE approached the District Commander for a full picture of the development, he said the investigator of the case was yet to brief him about the case.
