Ex-Ghana International exposes Black Stars’ goal scoring weakness
Ex-Ghana international, Dan Owusu, has said Ghanaian players lack the techniques of goal scoring and that has been the problem of the Black Stars.
The former Bechem United coach explained that when the players get into the 18 yard box, they begin to shiver as a result of fear and sometimes too they are in a hurry to put the ball at the back of the net.
He thinks this is the reason why Ghanaian strikers find it difficult to score, even when they get a glorious opportunity.
He said the players, particularly, the strikers must learn how to place the ball into the net instead of always relying on shots.
“There are certain things the players don’t look at; when it comes to goal scoring it involves quick thinking because at the verge of receiving the ball, everybody would like to dispossess you so you have to be fast and place the ball.
“The players also like playing shots too much, when you are about five or six metres away from the goal post shooting is not needed, you have to place it like playing a penalty. Also, when they get to the 18 yard box they begin to shake. You have to calm down because you are in a goal scoring area.
“There are many angles you can choose to play the ball at, you are the one in possession of the ball so you determine where to place it,” he added.
The Black Stars of Ghana, ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, have played two preparatory games and failed to register a goal on both occasions. They drew with South Africa and lost against Namibia.
