Eminem Unveils Release Date for New Album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) with Horror-Inspired Trailer
The rapper shared the album’s lead single “Houdini” on Friday, May 31
Eminem is giving fans more insight into his next era.
On Tuesday, July 2, the “Lose Yourself” rapper, 51, shared a new trailer on social media ahead of the release of his new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) on Friday, July 12.
In the visual, which takes place at “Pompsomp Hills Hospital,” a woman is seen in the delivery room in labor. When she gives birth, the baby doesn’t appear to be breathing, so the doctor slaps them multiple times. When she’s handed the baby, their eyes darken and they grow horns.
The new mother panics and the hospital staff runs out as the clip pans to the title of Eminem’s new album and a snippet of his recent single “Houdini.”
The “Crack a Bottle” artist also released the album’s next single, “Tobey” with Big Sean and Babytron, on July 2 — sharing the track alongside cover artwork referencing Spider-Man.
Slim Shady released “Houdini” on Friday, May 31, the lead single off of his upcoming album.
In the video for his latest track, which dropped the same day, features Eminem in bed receiving a phone call from Dr. Dre, which calls back to the 2002 “Without Me” visual. The track also features several homages to the 22-year-old song, including a reference to the lyric, “Guess who’s back, back again/Shady’s back, tell a friend.”
In the video, the call from Dre reveals that a portal from 2002 has opened in the city, which means that a younger, bleach blonde version of Eminem has arrived in 2024.
Both the older and younger versions of the “Superman” performer even appear together on screen, and the video features the comic-book-style visuals also seen in “Without Me” — Eminem even sports the same superhero costume he wore in the earlier visual.
