Election observing not fault finding mission – Afari-Gyan

Former head of Ghana’s Electoral Commission Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has urged election observers to desist from the urge of finding fault with elections that they undertake.

”I hope you will keep in mind that election observation is not fault-finding but a fact-finding activity,” he noted at a conference held by Africa Election Observers Network (WAEON) in Accra.

Dr. Afari-Gyan told the conference of election observers to rather establish with working relationship with election management bodies in the respective areas they go in order to achieve their objectives.

He also advised electoral management bodies in Africa to be cautious in introducing new technologies in its operations.

He argued simply adopting new technologies without the requisite knowledge on their operations and impact on the electoral system could be counter-productive.
