EFCC releases Naira Marley

Nigerian musician Naira Marley has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), after arresting him alongside Zlatan Ibile.

A nine-minute footage circulating on online shows Marley, who turns a year older today, jubilating over his release as his fans cheered him on.

However, there was no sign of Zlatan Ibile.

The duo were arrested in Zlatan’s house in the early hours of Friday, May 10th in connection with an alleged case of internet fraud.

Confirming his arrest, the acting EFCC spokesperson Tony Orilade in an interview with the media explained that the musician and his accomplices were arrested in order to establish their affiliations with internet fraudsters popularly called ‘yahoo yahoo’.

“Yes, he is with us,” he said. “He’s not the only person; he had some other persons also arrested alongside (him). They were arrested in relation to advance fee fraud — Internet-related cases and all of that. Give me a little time and I will get you the details.”

Sources say that the two artistes are under the agency’s investigation for songs and comments glorifying cybercrime; most recently “am i a yahoo boy?” released on Thursday.

The anti-graft agency has since seized their laptops and phones to conduct forensics to determine their link to cybercrime.
