Drake Puts ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ To The Test In Ibiza With Black Coffee’s Help

Drake’s house-influenced Honestly, Nevermind album may have thrown some fans for a loop, but one place the project seems tailor-made for is the European dance hotspot of Ibiza.

That’s exactly where the 6 God put his latest album to the test over the weekend as he popped up at South African DJ/producer Black Coffee’s set at the Hï Ibiza nightclub on Saturday night (July 16).

A video posted on Twitter by Coffee — who co-produced the Honestly, Nevermind tracks “Current” and “Overdrive” — shows him spinning material from the aforementioned LP as Drake himself watches on from the crowd (surrounded by a sea of camera phones, naturally).

In another clip on Coffee’s page, Drake makes his way to the stage and hugs the Subconsciously DJ before getting his groove on to “Massive.”

The warm embrace is no surprise considering Drizzy previously worked with Black Coffee on “Get It Together,” from his 2017 mixtape More Life.

Not everyone shares Drake’s enthusiasm for Honestly, Nevermind‘s dance floor-friendly sound, though. Following the album’s release, The Breakfast Club‘s Charlamagne Tha God likened it to “the vibes you hear when you’re at a Beverley Hills luxury hotel.”

Murder Inc. founder and former Def Jam executive Irv Gotti was even more dismissive, telling TMZ, “It made me feel like going and finding me a raw new DMX, new Ja [Rule], new Jay[-Z] and serving n-ggas and fucking bringing back great Hip Hop.”

In response to the early mixed reactions to the project, Drake said at his album release party, “It’s all good if you don’t get it yet. That’s what we do! We wait for you to catch up.”

Drake’s European trip has certainly been an eventful one. Last week, rumors circulated online suggesting the OVO rapper had been arrested for marijuana possession in Sweden.

His team initially denied the rumors, claiming Drake was “at his hotel room and has not been arrested.” But Drizzy himself appeared to confirm some kind of run-in with Swedish police on Sunday (July 17) by posting a document from Sweden’s Public Prosecutor’s Office on Instagram.

The letter contained “information for those suspected of a crime and subsequently detained,” although details surrounding Drake’s reported arrest remain unclear.
