The Super Bowl halftime performance by Dr. Dre and company was one for the books and continues to be a point of conversation in the aftermath of the game.
One moment during the halftime show that garnered much attention was Eminem taking a knee, a clear homage to former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his silent protest over police brutality. “Em taking the knee, that was Em doing that on his own, and there was no problem with that,” he said.
There were minor changes to songs performed by Kendrick Lamar, particularly the line “and we hate po-po” from his now-protest anthem “Alright” in addition to “If Pirus and Crips all got along” from his song “m.A.A.d city”
“They had a problem with that, so we had to take that out. No big deal, we get it. But, all in all, everybody came in, we were professional, everybody was on time,” Dre said. “Everybody felt the magnitude of what this thing was, and what we were going to be able to accomplish. It was a fantastic experience.”
