The announcement arrives just days after Khaled closed out the 2023 Grammy Awards with a performance of his 3x Grammy-nominated single “GOD DID” alongside JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, John Legend, Rick Ross and Fridayy.
In a post-show interview with TIDAL, Hov admitted he was debating whether the Grammys audience could stomach all four minutes of his guest verse, but decided to go for it because of the song’s monumental impact on Hip Hop.
“I thought about it, I was in my head and I just broke down and said, ‘You know, it’s a four-minute verse.’ Again, for the culture, for Hip Hop, we got to do that,” he said. “This ain’t your traditional song. … It’s not your traditional structure of what you think a song that would be nominated for Song of the Year would sound like. It’s not what you expect. And for the culture and for Hip Hop, we got to do that.”
He continued: “We owe that. This thing that changed our lives. We got to do that. A four-minute verse performed at the Grammys. We owe it to the culture, and it ain’t even a burden. It’s a blessing. It’s easy and fun.”
Last month, Hov’s Roc Nation announced a partnership with DJ Khaled, Shyne and The Walt Disney Company that will see Khaled and Roc Nation produce one of four biographical projects.
According to Shyne, his new deal through Disney-owned brands ESPN and Andscape will see the release of a documentary, a scripted biopic, a docuseries and an autobiography.
“Very pleased, very grateful that I was able to close a deal with Walt Disney and their subsidiaries ESPN and Andscape to produce my bio-documentary, bio-motion picture and bio-TV series, as well as my memoir,” the rapper turned politician said. “The documentary will be executive produced by DJ Khaled and Roc Nation. So stay tuned, we will begin production here in Belize in the Spring. And we look for a 2024 Summer release.”
In the post’s caption, Shyne gave his followers some insight into what to expect from the first project under this deal.
“With @djkhaled and @rocnation executive producing,” he wrote, “you can expect nothing short of a riveting film that takes you on an unfiltered journey of my life from birth in Belize to the dreams, nightmares, triumphs and tragedies involved in selling millions of albums, winning Grammy Awards, sacrificing my career and freedom to defend myself and friends, incarceration to reincarnation, fury to forgiveness, hurt to healing poverty to patriotism and purpose….Legendary Rapper to next Prime Minister of Belize!”
