Did Taylor Swift Tease Her Song ‘But Daddy I Love Him’ Back in 2008? Watch the Interview

In the resurfaced interview, the “Fortnight” singer revealed that she told her father the now-iconic line in an argument

Taylor Swift has proven once again that she is a mastermind.

Long before Swift, 34, wrote “But Daddy I Love Him” for The Tortured Poets Department, she shared in a 2008 Popsugar interview that she told her father that same phrase during an “epic teenage tantrum.”

In the resurfaced interview, Swift talked about writing “Love Story” for her second album Fearless after an argument with her dad about a guy she was dating at the time.

“I remember screaming something like ‘But daddy, I love him!’ and running out and storming into my room and slamming the door,” Swift recalled in the clip. “Then I sat down on the floor and wrote this song.”

Years later, Swift sings “Now I’m running with my dress unbuttoned / Screaming ‘But Daddy I love him!’ “ in The Tortured Poets Department track.

When “But Daddy I Love Him” came out in April, fans speculated that the song drew inspiration from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, released in 1989, the same year Swift was born. In the film, Ariel tells King Triton, “But Daddy I love him,” when he finds her grotto and that she fell in love with a human, Prince Eric.

Swift included “But Daddy I Love Him” on The Tortured Poets Department set for the Eras Tour when the tour resumed in Paris on May 9. Some other new tracks in the set include “So High School” and “I Can Do it With a Broken Heart.”
