Jacky Oh died at age 33 after complications from cosmetic surgery in Miami on May 31, 2023. TMZ was first to report the news.
A BET Media Group spokesperson shared in a statement to PEOPLE at the time: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jacklyn Smith, known to the world as Jacky Oh, a talented Wild ‘N Out family member whose impact will be forever treasured and missed.”
Her death was officially ruled as accidental by the Medical Examiner’s Office in October 2023. The Miami Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE at the time that there would not be a criminal investigation into her death following the ruling.
Whitfield and Jacky Oh met in 2015 while appearing on the show Wild ‘N Out together and shared three children: Nova, Nala and Prince.
In his first post on social media after her death, Whitfield wrote, in part,: “You are the GREATEST MOTHER I KNOW your soul was beautiful. Yu always wanted the best for others and I admired how our family love each other!!! Never had to worry about our kids loving each other cause you were on top of Dat!!! You kno we GOD fearing and we are grounded by the spirit.”
While appearing on Tamron Hall in December 2023, Whitfield opened up about his reaction to losing Jacky and how it’s been “different” to his grief over other family members.
“I’d had been through so much loss. Emotionally, I’m numb to death, because I’m used to it,” he explained.
“With my cousin, I was angry, when my father died, I was at peace. When my best friend died, I was confused. Now, when my girl died, I’m shocked,” he continued. “And who is this for? Who do I talk to? Because this not only affects me, it affects my children. They have [gone] through something that I ain’t even been through.
