‘Dancehall Does Not Pay That’s Why I Do Kpuu Kpaa & Other Danceable Songs’- Shatta Wale
One of the missiles Stonwbwoy’s fans throw at Shatta Wale is that he doesn’t embody the true element of Dancehall music.
That explains why most of them mocked him when he won the Highlife Song of the Year at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
However Shatta Wale has explained that he employs that strategy because he’s business minded and not to rely on Dancehall exclusively which does not pay.
Shatta Wale revealed this in an interview with Paul Adom Otchere in an interview on Metro TV.
‘People know me as dancehall artiste and they feel always I should do dancehall but that’s why I tell people this is business for me so whatever is commercial for me to make money I just do it.
He explained further that he has to do other genres to fetch him money.
‘Reggae dancehall music doesn’t sell much like you’re doing what the people like here. So I like to portray something that will appeal to from my father’s age to youths and to kids cos I have children that sing my song.
‘Because I’m concentrating so much on Ghanaians, I’m not just taking it as if I’m doing music but I’m trying to promote what our culture knows.’
