The Hohoe Circuit Court presided over by Mr Yaw Poku Achampong has remanded a 19-year-old farmer, Badu Majifam into prison custody for defiling an eleven year-old girl, leaving her with injuries to her vagina.
Badu pleaded not guilty and will reappear in court on June 25.
Presenting the facts to the court, Police Inspector George Doe told the court that the complainant, who is the father of the victim is a farmer and resides in Portripor No. one, while the accused person also a farmer resides in Portripor No. four, both suburbs of Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
Inspector Doe said the victim and her nine year-old sister on May 31 this year at about 1600hours, went to their farm in Portripor No.four where the accused person resides and farms.
He said while the victim and her sister were gathering shea-nut on the farm, the accused person from nowhere emerged and started chasing the victim and her sister with his dogs.
Inspector Doe told the court that the nine year-old girl escaped but the accused caught the victim and dragged her into the bush, tore her panties and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her where she sustained injuries to her vagina, and left the victim in the bush.
He also said when the nine year-old girl went to tell their father (complainant) about how the accused had chased them with his dogs, she led the complainant with some community members to where they were chased and pointed the accused person as their assailant.
Inspector George Doe said the complainant then questioned Badu of the whereabouts of his other daughter but he denied any knowledge of her.
The complainant, together with some community members arrested the accused person who then told them where the victim was and led them to the bush where the victim was lying injured.
He said the accused person was sent to the chief of the town and the incident later reported to the police by the complainant where medical report form was given to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital.
The prosecution told the court that the accused person denied committing the offence upon interrogation by the police.
