Consider Mother’s Day as public holiday – Rev. Eric Sam
Reverend Eric Sam, the General overseer of Merryland Hope Ministry International in Accra has suggested to government to consider Mother’s Day celebration as a public holiday to honour motherhood.
The celebration on the theme “appreciate and love your mother” was to pay homage to mothers who had and continued to inspire their children and also to strengthened the bond between mothers and their children.
Reverend Eric said “Motherhood is the most precious gift of God to any woman and therefore we should appreciate their efforts by setting a day aside for them”.
He said in their bid to raise awareness, an assembly was held a week before to teach his church members the importance of mother’s day.
During the celebration, the children service presented various performances including; songs, poems, drama and chorography to show their love.
The youth committee donated items including; rice, can tomatoes, tin fish, milk, sugar, sandals and others to the women’s fellowship in the church.
Mother’s Day celebration is said to have taken place in the time of ancient Greeks and Romans, hundreds of years ago and is celebrated in more than 46 countries in the world commonly in the months of March, April and May.
Mr Prince Essel a member of the church said mothers should be cared for because a home can only be complete and strong with a woman.
