Okyeame Kwame the Rap Doctor has bemoaned government’s consideration of French as a second language for Ghana, saying such a move will be very disrespectful to our culture.
It would be recalled that at the recent opening session of the 2019 La Francophone Week in Accra, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said Ghana is considering choosing French as its second language.
But according to Okyeame, instead of choosing a foreign language, it will be much better, to choose from the many local languages of Ghana.
“French as a second language is disrespectful to our pride and culture, it is bad enough that our first language is another person’s language. What is wrong with making one of our local languages our first language,” he posted on Twitter.
Okyeame Kwame went on to explain that all countries that have developed did so by using their own language as the official means of communication.
Okyeame Kwame, whose album ‘Made in Ghana’ is yet to be released has been using his music and lifestyle to promote Ghana’s heritage.
