The Central Gonja District Assembly in the Savannah Region has inaugurated five projects aimed at addressing some of the basic needs of the Assembly.
They included construction of Community Centre at Buipe valued at GHS479,242.62, construction and equipping of Operating Theatre at Buipe Polyclinic valued at GHS220,251.93, construction and furnishing of District Assembly Conference Hall valued at GHS335,773.30, construction of residential accommodation for Medical Doctor at Buipe at a cost of GHS109,562.00 and construction of residential accommodation for BNI Officer at Buipe at a cost of GHS109,562.00.
They were financed through revenue from the Administration of Stool Lands.
Mr Salifu Adam Braimah, Savannah Regional Minister, who inaugurated the projects at Buipe, urged District Assemblies to use part of their Internally Generated Funds to undertake development projects and programmes in their areas.
Mr Adam Braimah said this would motivate ratepayers in the communities to pay more since they would see the benefits of their contributions.
He noted that most Assemblies depended heavily on the Common Fund and other donor agencies for development projects and programmes, hence any delay in the release of the Common Fund relatively affected the progress of development projects.
He expressed the need for the Assemblies to judiciously utilise revenue from the Administration of Stool Lands saying “We will ensure that this important resource is applied for the benefit of our people”.
Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor, Chief of Buipe, said the development of the Assembly was not the sole responsibility of government but rather a partnership amongst traditional authorities, non-governmental organisations, the youth and the citizenry.
He expressed the need for all stakeholders to collaborate effectively for the development of society.
