Cardi B Quits Social Media Over Grammys Backlash: ‘I Hate This Fuckin Dumbass Fan Base’

Cardi B‘s unfiltered, down-to-Earth social media posts have won her an army of admirers including You star Penn Badgley, but those expecting the usual entertainment from the Bronx bombshell should prepare to be disappointed.

On Sunday (April 3), Cardi B deactivated her Twitter and Instagram accounts — which had north of 10 million and 120 million followers, respectively — after finding herself embroiled in a spat with her fans over her absence from the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, which took place in Las Vegas that night.

Some fans expressed their disappointment at Cardi’s no-show and believe she had indicated that she would be attending “music’s biggest night,” where she was nominated for Best Rap Performance thanks to her chart-topping 2021 hit “Up.”

“When did I hype y’all up ?” she wrote in response to one fan’s tweet. “Where and when did I ever gave hints ? Like are you ok ? I’m not going to a award if I don’t got a new song to perform Or my album ain’t out …Next year.”

In another since-deleted tweet, Cardi reminded her fans “I been posting on my IG stories where I been at … like clearly I’m in my house and I’m in NY the fuck.”

Before signing off the social media platforms, Cardi B called her fanbase “fuckin dumb” and blasted them for bringing her and Offset’s children — 3-year-old daughter Kulture and six-month-old son — into the online spat.

“I’m deleting my twitter but On God I hate this fuckin dumbass fan base,” she tweeted. “You got the slow dumbasses dragging my kids all cause y’all though I was going to the Grammys and I didn’t the fuck ? When the fuck I hinted I was going ?just fuckin stupid I can’t I needs to protect myself.”

Even had she attended the Grammys, Cardi B wouldn’t have graced the stage as Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar‘s “Family Ties” took home the award for Best Rap Performance, which, controversially, was the only rap category that was televised.

This isn’t the first time Cardi B has quit social media. In March 2018, the 29-year-old deleted her Instagram page and locked her Twitter account after being called an “illiterate, untalented rat” by Azealia Banks for her poor grammar and spelling.

“Why is it that male rappers can speak how they want act how they want but people constantly bash me for it?” Cardi tweeted before deleting her account. “Why do i feel like i have to apologize for being who i am? talking how i talk and being what ya call ‘Ghetto’ wtff. LEAVE ME ALONE!”

Nor is Cardi B the only rapper to have departed social media this year. After weeks of attacking his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, her new boyfriend Pete Davidson and others on Instagram, Kanye West was suspended from the social media platform in March.

Ye was reportedly hit with only a 24-hour ban, although he’s remained inactive since his March 16 suspension. According to Page Six, the Chicago rap icon recently told Kim Kardashian he “will go away somewhere to get better.”
