Billie Eilish on Coming to Terms with Her Sexuality Last Year — and Why She Never Planned to Talk About It

“I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina,” she said

Billie Eilish is getting candid.

In a cover story interview with Rolling Stone out Wednesday, April 24, the “Ocean Eyes” artist, 22, opened up about coming to terms with her sexuality and why she had initially planned to keep that part of her life private.

When discussing the sexual nature of “Lunch, which will be featured on her forthcoming album Hit Me Hard and Soft, Eilish explained how the new song was a part of her journey of self-discovery.
“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” she said, referring to her sexuality. “I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after.”

Eilish continued: “I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina.”

However, the “Bad Guy” artist never intended to discuss her sexuality with the public.
“It’s really frustrating to me that it came up,” Eilish told the outlet, referring to when she came out to Variety in December.

Afterward, the nine-time Grammy winner shared an Instagram post with the caption “Who f—ing cares?” referring to the conversation.

“The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn’t get to say anything or control any of it,” Eilish recalled. “Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other, and I think that there’s a lot of wanting labels all over the place.”

She continued: “Dude, I’ve known people that don’t know their sexuality, or feel comfortable with it, until they’re in their forties, fifties, sixties. It takes a while to find yourself, and I think it’s really unfair, the way that the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are.”

Eilish added that she’s “only figuring out” her sexuality “now.”
Earlier this month, the pop star announced her third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. will be released May 17.

Instead of a typical rollout with singles as she did for her past two albums, 2019’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and 2021’s Happier Than Ever, the “Bad Guy” artist will share the 10-track project all at once.
