Banky W explains why Wizkid missed his wedding, says people are being ‘unfairly’ judgmental

Musician and CEO of Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) Records, Olubankole Wellington known in showbiz circles as Banky W says Wizkid should not be blamed for missing his traditional and white wedding.

Banky W opines that people are judging his former signee wrongly because they have no idea what caused his absence from the epic ceremony.

“I think people unfairly judged Wiz and a lot of them were a little bit too harsh on him for missing the wedding,” he says.

According Banky W, Wizkid like several Nigerian celebrities could not attend the wedding because they had other equally important events to attend.

In an interview with This Day, he said: “Many people forget that around the time of my traditional wedding was also when One Africa Music Fest was going on in Dubai. So, there were many other artistes at the event, who were struggling trying to make it back to catch up with the wedding.

He continued: “In fact, Tiwa Savage had to take the last available economy seat in the plane, even though she had an upper-class ticket for a few days later, just to get her back in time for my wedding. So, it wasn’t just Wizkid that missed it, a lot of people who were at the concert did.”

Banky W further stated that Wizkid’s inability to attend the wedding has not marred their relationship.

“Either way, people should know that the relationship between Wizkid and I is deeper than any fame or fortune,” Banky noted, adding that “Wizkid is my younger brother, he has been for a very long time and that is never going to change.”

Born Ayo Balogun, Wizkid signed on to E.M.E Records in December 2009. The five-year contract with ended in December 2014 but was not renewed.

Banky W at the time remarked that he sees Wizkid’s exit simply as growth and can be compared to big international departures such as 50 Cent and Eminem, Lady Gaga and Akon.

“It’s just growth,” he said. “You start something; you build it up to a certain point and if it gets to the point where it feels like you need to take separate directions then you take separate directions but everything is still good.”

But some people have held the view that there is a friction between the two parties.

Wizkid backs Banky W’s political ambition

Meanwhile, Wizkid has pledged to support Banky W in his bid for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives.

Banky W months ago declared his intention to run for the Eti Osa seat in the House of Representatives and Wizkid who sees the venture as a great move in an Instagram post urged his former label boss to remain courageous while promising to support him in the best way he can.

Banky W will be contesting on the ticket of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP), a party led by Prince Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, a 27 year-old youth activist and entrepreneur.
