Baby thief nabbed by police
A suspected baby thief is in the grip of the Kotobabi District Police Command for allegedly attempting to steal a four-year-old boy at a location near the Maamobi General Hospital in Accra. The suspect, who the police has named as Ibrahim Azamal, was in the company of his accomplices who are currently on the run and yet to be identified.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effia Tenge, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said at about 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2019, a group of people whose identity is being withheld by the police took Azamal to the Kotobabi Police Station and reported a case of attempted child theft against him.
She said the police found Azamal with injury marks all over his body and consequently sent him to the Police Hospital for medical attention.
Mrs Tenge said the police has begun investigations into the matter and has detailed some police officers to the area where Azamal was accosted and arrested.
Scene
Mrs Tenge said from preliminary police investigations, it was established that Azamal called the four-year-old boy, who was walking around the streets in the neighbourhood.
According to her, when the boy refused to heed the call, Azamal grabbed him, leading him to cry for help.
An eyewitness who saw the boy struggling to free himself questioned Azamal, who claimed that he was taking the boy to his mother who was waiting in a black Toyota Corolla vehicle parked close by.
However, when the eyewitness attempted to verify what Azamal had said, the vehicle, with three occupants, sped off.
The eyewitnesses, she said, raised an alarm, leading to Azamal’s arrest.
