Asamoah Gyan rescinds retirement decision after Nana Addo’s intervention

Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has rescinded his decision to retire from international football.

Gyan took to his twitter handle to announce the u-turn, which he said was influenced by a conversation with President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday.

“A presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded,” the striker said on Twitter.

“I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith, and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah to help win the AFCON trophy.”

Gyan first walked away from the National Team after he was replaced as the captain of the Black Stars.

The 33-year-old has not featured for the Black Stars since September 2017 after recurrent injury problems.

He currently plays for Turkish club Kayserispor.

Gyan is Ghana’s record goal scorer for the Black Stars with 51 goals in 106 international appearances.

His stellar goalscoring record for the national team includes goals at six consecutive Nations Cup finals and as well as three World Cups from 2006 and 2014.
