After enduring days of public discontent for his ill-timed decision to prematurely end his services to the senior national team, Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has made efforts to contact head coach Kwesi Appaiah, close sources say.
The strong tone with which Gyan announced his retirement from international football did not meet the reception he anticipated as the bulk public perception pointed to selfishness and over-indulgence in the glitz of wearing Black Stars captain’s band, relegating the national interest in pursuit of personal whims.
However, the player has followed up calls to the head coach with text messages, indicating his desire to meet him on arrival in the country. Insider sources say the head coach felt his authority questioned by his ex-captain’s reaction to news of his shift to the role as general captain of the national side minimizing his direct leadership of his team mates on the pitch.
Gyan whose club Kayserispor lie 11th on the Turkish league table are two points behind Andre Ayew’s Fenerbahce who lie 9th on 43 points.
Both players will be joining the Black Stars camp that will be basing in Dubai for AFCON camping as Ghanaians continue to maintain hopes of an untroubled camping experience by reason of the Black Stars captaincy row.
