Ahmadiyyah Youth in Cape Coast fete inmates of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital

As part of the Eid-ul- Fitr celebration, the youth wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (Khuddam-Ul-Ahmadiyya) in the Abura Zone of the Central Region feted inmates of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital.

They also donated assorted items such as clothes, food, detergents, sanitary pads and many others to the Hospital.

The event, which was funded with contributions of members provided the inmates with lunch packs and assorted non-alcoholic and local beverages.

Mr Abdul -Rahman Arthur Quarm, the Zonal President of the Association who led the youth to donate the items said the gesture was in fulfilment of the Islamic teachings to extend support to the vulnerable and less privileged in the society.

He said dinning with the inmates brought joy and sense of belonging and relief to them that they had not been neglected by family and friends.

“Our religion teaches us to be benevolent, loving, caring and above all, be each other’s keeper, we are following the teachings of Islam”, stated.

“As Muslims, our focus should be to seek the happiness of the poor, the needy and the less privileged.

Mr Samuel Dzangmah, the administrator, nursing division of the hospital expressed his profound gratitude to the Ahmadiyyah youth for the gesture.

He, however, expressed worry about the behaviour of some people who abandoned their relatives at the hospital or failed to bring them for review, saying mental illness was just like any other sickness that could befall anybody.
