Joy FM kicked off the new year right with its annual 90s Jam, a lavish rooftop party on the top of the Silver Star Towers in the heart of Accra on Friday.
The event, considered one of the most anticipated parties of the year, was hefty in attendance. Thousands partied to the best songs of the 90s including 2Pac’s “California Love,” TLC’s “What About Your Friends,” and Beenie Man’s “Beema.”
“I had a blast,” said Terry Oppong, one partygoer told Myjoyonline. “I will definitely return next year.”
Many who came matched their outfits with the party’s theme. Some wore baggy pants and combat boots while others wore hoodies and caps turned backwards.
World-renowned DJ Black started the festivities with a 90s set that got the crowd pumping. Then, distinguished DJs Sammy Forson and Andy Dosty rocked the party with reggae joints and hiplife. Host of Drive Time on Joy, Lexis Bill, kept patrons engaged with his high-energy hype man skills. Nii Ayi Tagoe was the evening’s guest DJ.
One Joy FM staff who has attended the event every year for the past five years said that the event “is an opportunity for people to come and reconnect with old friends, make new ones and relive the old times – even if it is only for a night.”
