6 new ‘bogus’ regions imply more corruption, more job for the boys, more rot – Sekou Nkrumah

Controversial son of the first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou Nkrumah has said the creation of six more regions is bogus as it will not address the root cause of the problems of under-development in Ghana.

Ghana has now created six new regions bringing the total number of regions to sixteen, within last week and much of this week, President Akufo-Addo spent time naming the capitals of the new regions.

A referendum was held in the areas that had to be split to form the new regions and the people boted massively for it.

The referendum was successfully held with majority of voters voting YES to the new proposed regions. Voters had either a YES or NO option for the proposed regions.

The new regions created as a result of the referendum are Bono East, North East, Ahafo region, Western North, Savannah and Oti.

The original ten regions were the Bono Ahafo, Central, Western, Eastern, Volta, Ashanti, Upper East, Upper West, Greater Accra and Northern regions.

But Sekou Nkrumah believes it is a useless venture to create six more regions.

“6 more regions? What is all that about? Will the creation of more regions really address our problems?” He asked.

“Honestly I don’t see how creating more regions will address our poor infrastructure and development nation wide! After all where are the resources coming from? Same Ghana, same central government! So distributing the same resources to 10 regions or 20 regions will produce the same results.” He explained.

“In fact what it will do is create more bureaucracy, more bottle necks, and more corruption, job for the boys etc! Instead of creating more regions government should be creating more roads, highways etc to better link our cities, towns and villages!” He added.
