50 CENT SUGGESTS FINAL LAP TOUR WILL BE HIS LAST EVER: ‘I’M HAVING FUN THIS TIME’
50 Cent has suggested that his forthcoming Final Lap Tour will be his last tour ever, and hinted that more dates are set to be announced.
The G-Unit leader revealed plans for the massive international tour earlier this month in celebration of the 20th anniversary of his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
The sprawling, 64-date trek kicks off July 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah and journeys across North America until September 17, making stops in cities such as Toronto, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and 50’s hometown of New York City.
50 Cent took a moment to chat with his fans on Instagram Live on Tuesday (May 23) and said he sold over 500,000 tickets in seven days to his forthcoming tour.
“Because ticket sales are doing so well they’re adding new markets so the UK, North America and possibly Australia will be in there,” 50 said. “I gotta get to Africa. I got a lot of spots I gotta hit before I be done, because this is the Final Lap Tour.”
He continued: “I won’t be running around like this no more. I gotta do my film and television stuff and got a lot of other things going on behind the scenes that I gotta work on, so I won’t be out touring as much as I’ve been touring…I’m having fun this time because it’s set up to enjoy myself, we not feeling pressure.”
The European leg begins on September 28, and includes shows in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy and the U.K., where it comes to a close on November 12.
50 Cent also revealed that Busta Rhymes will be joining him for the ride, along with Jeremih for the North American dates.
Get Rich or Die Tryin’ dropped on February 6, 2003 via Interscope Records, Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records, Eminem’s Shady Records, and 50’s own G-Unit Records. The album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 872,000 copies in its first week, and has since been certified 9x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Get Rich or Die Tryin’, 50 Cent gave fans the opportunity to purchase autographed vinyl copies of his blockbuster album for one week only.
“20 years ago today, I dropped the largest debuting hip hop album of all time,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Here’s Your chance to Own a piece of History! Get your Autographed ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’ Albums Today. Available for the next 7 Days.”
Ahead of the anniversary, 50 also took a moment to reflect back on when Get Rich or Die Tryin’ shot to No.1 on the Billboard 200 – which he called a defining moment in his decorated career.
“The first time I realized the numbers on Get Rich or Die Tryin’, that was it for me,” he said on Big Boy’s Neighborhood when asked which career moment he wishes he could relive. “We had a short first week, and it came back, it was like 830,000 something. And then we didn’t have the decrease that you would have, meaning they under-shipped it.”
He continued: “The 60 percent, 30 percent decrease that would be there for every album wasn’t there because the following week, it came in with a whole other 800,000. I was on a bus riding in the back, and I remembered [thinking], ‘This is never going to feel like this again.’”
