50 Cent Pays Tribute To Coolio On Tour Ahead Of Late Rapper’s Memorial

50 Cent continues to keep Coolio’s legacy alive while on the road following his death last month.

During a concert with Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda in Gothenburg, Sweden on October 6, the G-Unit boss paid tribute to the late Compton rapper by leading a singalong of his 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” with the crowd.

Images of Coolio, who passed away due to a suspected cardiac arrest while visiting a friend’s home in Los Angeles on September 28, filled the giant screens on stage.

“Rest in peace Coolio,” 50 told the crowd as “Gangsta’s Paradise” blared through the indoor arena’s speakers. “Sing along, come on!”

50 Cent also honored Pop Smoke, who was murdered in February 2020, during the Gothenburg show by performing their Roddy Ricch-assisted collaboration “The Woo,” taken from the late Brooklyn rapper’s posthumous album Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon.

50 previously paid tribute to Coolio by sharing a video of them hanging out backstage while on tour in Europe. In the clip, Coolio regaled the room with a story of him witnessing the Queens, New York native beat up three hecklers outside a nightclub.

“One time I pulled up at this club, you was walking out, and it was three n-ggas outside talking shit,” Coolio recalled. “It was three n-ggas talking shit and security weren’t gonna do nothing and you said, ‘I got this.’ You did your little smile and said, ‘What you say?’ BAM! The n-gga slid like seven feet and he was on the ground.

“One of them tried to run and you grabbed him by the hoodie and BAM! Threw him down. The other one tried to run. Boom, you swept that n-gga. Ah man, that shit was funny as a muthafucka. I was in the car, I was in the limo. I said, ‘Fif, you a cold n-gga!’ You said, ‘What’s up, legend.’ That shit was fire. I’ll never forget that shit.”

“Rest in peace legend, Coolio Gangsta Paradise,” 50 Cent wrote in his Instagram caption.

Meanwhile, a memorial for Coolio is set to take place in Torrance, California on Sunday (October 16), according to a flyer shared on Spice 1‘s Instagram. The poster states the service will be held at the Toyota Meeting Center from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., although it’s unclear whether it was organized by his family.

As previously reported, Coolio’s body is set to be cremated and stored in necklaces owned by his seven children, as well as other close family members. The rest of his ashes will be stored in an urn.

“I’m respecting his wishes,” the rapper’s longtime girlfriend Mimi Ivey recently told Daily Mail. “He wanted to be cremated. He did not want a funeral; he did not want a memorial service. He didn’t want any of that.”
