50 Cent never misses the chance to get a few jokes off at someone else’s expense and fans always await his commentary whenever a viral moment in Hip Hop takes place.
The self-proclaimed Mayor of Coney Island Nems joined Complex for an episode of Brackets where he crowned 50 the funniest rapper out.
Nems gave 50 Cent the nod over Freddie Gibbs and he pointed to Freddie Kane’s alleged run-ins with Jim Jones and Benny The Butcher that threw some cold water on his comedy.
“50, he jokes on people and then wins the argument and then wins the fight,” Nems explained. “Freddie Gibbs jokes on people and then gets beat up allegedly. Nothing against his character, listen, he got beat up by 20 guys against 1 and I feel like that’s just 50 being more militant moving around.
“Gibbs is hilarious and his Instagrams is hilarious and I just seen the L.A. Leakers freestyle when he says to Akademiks and even uses his platform rapping to be funny… I’m gonna have to say the winner, the one and only Curtis.”
Earlier in the bracket selections, Nems selected 50 over the likes of DJ Khaled, Cam’ron and Tyler, The Creator while Gibbs made his finals run by beating out Action Bronson, T.I. and Doja Cat.
While the “Bing Bong” creator is known for his social media commentary including his weekly viral Don’t You Ever Disrespect Me series, Nems has a music project titled America’s Sweetheart, which is slated to arrive before the year’s out.
“The work I put out is gonna speak for itself,” he told HipHopDX over the summer. “The main thing I am is an artist. The “Bing Bong” shit and funny content is just an avenue to bring back to the music. Every follower should equal a dollar. And that’s not in a bad type of way, I put out quality merch and dope music. Eventually, you’re gonna tap into what I’m doing. You gotta know how to finesse that.”
