2019 AFCON: Andre Ayew reveals learning from previous Black Stars captains

Ghana captain Andre Ayew insists he has learnt a lot from previous Black Stars captain in his 12-year period with the national team.

The Swansea City midfielder was named the new captain of the Black Stars ahead of the Nations Cup last month by coach Kwesi Appiah.

A decision that sparked a bit of controversy after former captain Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement from the team for only 41 hours.

Gyan has been made general captain with Andre the new leader of the team and ahead of the tournament in Egypt, the ex-Marseille player reveals he has learn a lot from previous captains.

”I have learnt lots from all the captains,” the 29-year old told Asempa FM. “I played under Stephen Appiah the legendary captain, I played under John Mensah and played also under Asamoah Gyan. So I have learnt you can imagine with 12 years of playing with the Blacks Stars.”

”What I really saw is that every one had its style and way of leading and they all had the feeling of how they want their leadership to be,” he said.

The Black Stars are currently in Dubai for pre-AFCON camping, where coach Kwesi Appiah is expected to name his 23-man squad for the competition in Egypt.

Ghana have been drawn in Group F alongside Cameroon, Guinea Bissau and Benin.
